What is SSL and HTTPS?
SSL is a secure protocol that lets you set up a secure channel between your website and visitors.
An SSL certificate is a unique digital signature of your website that is needed to create a secure channel between the client and the server.
An SSL certificate allows to:
- Confirm authenticity of the website and verify its owner
- Provide encryption of transmitted data
- Protect against data spoofing when data is sent across the network
HTTPS is a secure protocol that allows encrypting the transmitted data and layers it over the SSL protocol.
Since January 2017, Firefox and Chrome browsers have been marking only HTTPS websites as secure.
An SSL certificate is automatically enabled for all uKit websites that have a custom domain name.
